Tax Settings #

Overview #

This knowledge base article provides information about key tax settings in Paysoft’s ProPay payroll software. It covers important rates that are automatically updated by Paysoft, as well as default settings that can be customized by users.

Automatically Updated Rates #

The following rates are updated annually by Paysoft, INC. and cannot be altered by users:

  • FICA Rate
  • FUTA Rate
  • Medicare Rate

User-Configurable Default Settings #

Default Tax State #

Purpose: This setting determines the default state for all new clients.

How to set: Enter your home state in the designated field.

Default Locality 1 and 2 #

Purpose: These settings apply to local jurisdictions that impose a local payroll tax. The localities defined here will be used as the default for all future clients.

How to set:

  1. Select a locality from the dropdown menu for each field.
  2. If you need to set up a new locality:
    • Go to SYSTEM SET-UP
    • Select LOCAL TAX TABLES SET-UP
    • Follow the prompts to add a new locality

  1. The help menu within the ProPay payroll software

Troubleshooting #

If you encounter issues with tax settings:

  1. Verify that you have the latest version of ProPay installed
  2. Check that your internet connection is stable for automatic rate updates
  3. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to modify default settings
  4. If problems persist, contact Paysoft support through the help menu or website
