Overview #
This guide will walk you through the process of creating a shortcut for ProPay on a workstation. ProPay is a payroll software that runs on a server PC from a mapped drive. By following these steps, you’ll be able to access ProPay directly from your workstation’s desktop.
Prerequisites #

- Permissions to map network drives on your workstation
- ProPay software installed on the server PC

Ensure that you have a network connection to the server PC where ProPay is installed.
2. Identify the UNC Path #
- On the server PC, run ProPay
- Go to Utilities > Show PC Environment
- Note the UNC Path displayed. It should look similar to:
\\serverpc\payroll
- In this example:
- PC name: serverpc
- Folder name: payroll
- Mapped drive letter: Z (This may vary)
3. Map Network Drive on Workstation #
- On your workstation, open File Explorer
- Right-click on “This PC”
- Select “Map network drive”
- Choose a drive letter (preferably the same as on the server, e.g., Z:)
- Enter the UNC path you noted earlier (e.g., \serverpc\payroll)
- Click “Finish”
4. Locate ProPay Executable #
- Navigate to the newly mapped drive (e.g., Z:)
- Find the ProPay executable file:
Paysoft\propay22\PAY2025.EXE
5. Create Desktop Shortcut #
- Right-click on PAY2025.EXE
- Select “Send to” > “Desktop (create shortcut)”
Troubleshooting #
Unable to Map Network Drive #
- Ensure you have the correct permissions to access the shared folder
- Verify that the server PC is online and accessible on the network
- Double-check the UNC path for any typos
Shortcut Doesn’t Work #
- Verify that the mapped drive is still connected
